For this month's installation of DRAW SPACE, we celebrate English artist + occultist AUSTIN OSMAN SPARE, who became famous during the early-twentieth century for his exquisite linework + provocative, at times grotesque, imagery. He is known for his development of creative techniques which explore the relationship between the conscious + unconscious self, including AUTOMATIC WRITING + DRAWING. The idea is to let the hand move freely across the paper, inviting CHANCE to guide the way.
THIS TUESDAY, we invite artists + doodlers of all levels to make a spontaneous work of art at DRAW SPACE, North Portland's informal, monthly drink + draw. As usual, TRUST will provide paper, some drawing tools, collage supplies + reference materials, but feel free to bring your own.
All participants will have the opportunity to show their piece exhibited at TRUST's inaugural EAST SIDE small works art show, which will take place on LAST THURSDAY, AUGUST 31st, from 6-8 pm.
21+ only / FREE entry with bar purchase

TRUST Collective presents
+ DRAW SPACE +
a sketchbook social
Every third Tuesday, beginning February 21, 2017
7-11 pm, 21+
at the Wild & Free Room @ Backyard Social
1914 N. Killingsworth at Denver
Hosted by Noelle Barce, aka Epochal Void
Artists are invited to bring a sketchbook to work in, or small project involving tools & materials that are neither odorous, nor messy. Artists will receive one raffle ticket with any purchase from the bar, and a second for spending $20 or more! Two prizes will be given during a drawing at 9 pm. Let's get together!
This is an intimate event for friends, family, and those who have shown interest in my work. Please join me for afternoon tea and conversation at my studio, with the opportunity to purchase prints, drawings & paintings at a major discount. RSVP to Noelle @ email@example.com.
Inspired by the nonlinear narrative style of Argentinean writer Jorge Luis Borges (1899-1986), A Garden of Forking Paths is an exhibition of eight Portland printmakers, each asked to view their process as something fluid, in which each step influences, but doesn't necessarily predict, the next. Results may be unexpected, unconventional, or uncharacteristic of the artist's typical style. Risks are taken and decisions made, for the sake of moving forward, of making connections, of finding A way, as opposed to THE way.
